NATURANCE contributes to shaping the agenda of the UN Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction 2025

The biennial international forum assesses and advances progress on the Sendai Framework for DRR.

The UN Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (GPDRR) is a biennial international forum recognized by the UN General Assembly for assessing and advancing progress on the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction. It brings together governments, policymakers, and stakeholders to share knowledge and accelerate actions in disaster risk reduction, sustainable development, and climate change adaptation and mitigation. The platform’s outcomes are acknowledged by both the UN General Assembly and the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), ensuring its global impact and alignment with key international frameworks. The 2025 edition of the Global Platform, titled “Every day counts, act for resilience today”, will take place from 2–6 June 2025 at the International Conference Centre Geneva (CICG) and the Varembé Conference Centre (VCC) in Switzerland. It will play a pivotal role in advancing the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030. Themes aligning with the NATURANCE project include advancing disaster risk reduction and climate financing strategies, risk-informed financing for resilient infrastructure, and engaging the private sector to scale up investments in disaster risk reduction. Jaroslav Mysiak, coordinator of the NATURANCE project, has been appointed to the organizing committee of Thematic Session 2-2: “Leverage the Value of Nature as a Unique Resource for Resilience Building and Preventing Future Risks.” This session aims to strengthen policy and finance frameworks to integrate nature-based solutions (NbS) into national and local governance. NATURANCE partner CMCC, alongside other PEDRR partners including the World Bank, the Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery, and Wetlands International, has also submitted a proposal to organize a side event titled “Leveraging the Value of Nature: Private Sector Investment in Ecosystem Restoration for Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Adaptation.” NATURANCE is also preparing a proposal to host an Ignite Stage – a TED Talk-style speech presenting disaster risk reduction-related topics – and participate in an Innovation Platform at GP2025. The applications for Ignite stage talks and Innovation Platform, a space to showcase disaster risk reduction innovations, will open in November 2025.
