Naturance at the NetworkNature Task Forces Cluster Meeting

The event, held on September 24th in Brussels, provided opportunities for researchers, policymakers, practitioners, and businesses to collaborate on innovative projects, discuss standardization and policy alignment.

During the NetworkNature Task Forces Cluster Meeting, held on September 24th in Brussels, Jaroslav Mysiak (CMCC) represented the NATURANCE project and moderated the Networking Table on “Insurance in the context of nature-based solutions”.

The discussion at this table focussed on innovative insurance solutions tailored to nature-based approaches. Mysiak introduced the idea for an innovation lab addressing community-based insurance schemes, connected to a public procurement scheme designed to support locally adapted insurance solutions.

The NATURANCE project’s initiative was well-received, showcasing a proactive approach to merging environmental resilience with financial protection.

NetworkNature+ is an expanding “network of networks” aimed at promoting the uptake and implementation of nature-based solutions (NbS) across various sectors and regions. It serves as a platform for sharing knowledge, building capacity, and fostering partnerships that align with the European Green Deal’s policy priorities.

The NetworkNature+ events provide opportunities for researchers, policymakers, practitioners, and businesses to collaborate on innovative projects, discuss standardization and policy alignment, and challenge conventional views on ecosystem management.

Tomorrow, the NetworkNature Annual Conference titled “Busting Myths: People or with Nature” brought together diverse stakeholders to challenge preconceived notions about ecosystem restoration and management.

Mysiak contributed to a compelling session on the economic implications of ecosystem services. He debunked the myth that “Ecosystem insurance is unworkable“, presenting evidence from the NATURANCE project on how integrating nature-based solutions can enhance the viability of insurance models.

His insights emphasized the role of innovative financial instruments in supporting sustainable economic development, positioning the NATURANCE project at the forefront of bridging the gap between environmental conservation and economic resilience.
